I do not understand the mystery of grace
only that it meets us where we are, but does not leave us where it found us." Anne Lamott

When we are deeply intrigued by the movement moment, each personal gesture becomes a kinetic prayer. When we open to our authentic expression, our dance is effortless and timeless. When we unite conscious intention with our spontaneous heart, the everyday dance is transformed into ecstatic awareness.
Come! -- Explore movement as a portal into the body, touch as a pathway to
essential connection, and community as a mirror of support. Through
the expressive arts of dancing, writing, sounding and witnessing,
we will embrace all that we are -- and all that we are becoming.

Join catalyst Paula Byrne for a weekend of moving
meditations designed to seek the sweet spot where the wildness
of Soul and the grace of Spirit unite.
All are welcome.
Paula leads movement workshops nationwide and is Owner and Director
of SomaSpace in Portland where she maintains a teaching practice.

Halelupe makes scarves for the love
of the child in all of us. Each scarf is knitted with love, using
colors and textures that inspire the child to relax and let go.
In the process you begin to shine and glow, so that everywhere
you go people will begin to tell you how beautiful you look. People
will admire the scarf and want to touch it and as they do, you
will see that they also will begin to relax and let go, coming
into joy. It is like magic. The knitting of these scarves is done
with great love for the child. Each stitch is a prayer and a request
to Divinity to remove anything that is not divine.

"If I could say with words what my dances are
telling, there would be no need to dance them."

Enter the temple of your body. Drop into art-time and soul-space.
Embrace your authentic movement. Listen to the whispers of your
heart.
DanceQuest offers 3 days of of movement, stillness, music, silence,
journaling, ritual, and soul-crafting.
We come together to remember our vision, reclaim our wisdom and
rejoice in community.
Using movement as fuel and breath as fire, we burn away what no
longer serves.
Engaging intuition and instinct, we connect to a larger self, breaking
open
a life that has grown too small.
~ If your body is tired of being ignored ~
~ If your heart desires a nurturing circle of women ~
~ If your soul needs reflection and rejuvenation ~
If you want to get away, and back to yourself ~ the dance awaits.
Since 1996, Paula Byrne has facilitated conscious movement: Wild
GraceTM, DanceQuestTM, Soul MotionTM, contact improv, authentic
movement, and trance dance. She teaches internationally and is

A tale of romance, heartbreak and meeting "The
One"
The burning question in every woman and man’s heart is
how do we find The One? By drawing from the depths of her direct
experience Anaiya will share with you that only by 'becoming the
One,’ will you attract the 'other' into your life. There
will be Soul Mates along the way, but if its the Twin Flame you
yearn for, then Anaiya has some 'work' you may be interested in!
This no-holds-barred workshop will answer these questions and
provide tools and insightful practise's to further enhance your
journey on the path to love. Using the model of "Five Realities"
(physicality, sexuality, emotionality, mentality, and spirituality)
will quickly reveal where resistance is holding you back.

Come! -- Explore movement as a portal into the body, touch as a pathway to essential connection, and community as a mirror of support. Through the expressive arts of dancing, writing, sounding and witnessing, we will embrace all that we are -- and all that we are becoming.

Join catalyst Paula Byrne for a weekend of moving meditations designed to seek the sweet spot where the wildness of Soul and the grace of Spirit unite. All are welcome.
Paula leads movement workshops nationwide and is Owner and Director of SomaSpace in Portland where she maintains a teaching practice.

Lyla Lisac first took an interest in fused glass in the mid 1970's after finding some sand-worn clumps of melted glass while walking on a beach in Alaska. The unexpected sea treasures seemed to have distinct "personality" that was created out of the random heat of a refuse fire. Lyla now creates her own unique jewelry pieces made from specialty glass that is individually hand-cut, arranged into patterns and fired in a kiln at temperatures between 1600-1800 degrees. No two ever turn out exactly alike. The specialty glass comes in a wide variety of colors, patterns and finishes. It is all formulated to have the same set melting point. The glass that has a metallic finish frequently changes color after firing which has resulted in many a delighful surprise and a few "hot messes".
Karli DuBois, Jewelry Design: My creativity really took off when I took a silver fusing class and I learned to "play with fire"! I lovingly fuse, handform and hammer silver into durable, eye catching gifts to adorn yourself or friends. Making my own chain and components is really enjoyable and I passionately indulge my addiction to wire-wrapping by embellishing my pieces with all kinds of earthy gemstomes and sparkly Swarovski Crystals beads. I repurpose any old jewelry I can lay my hands on by taking it apart and breathing new life into the parts. My style is a unique blend of equal parts yesterday & today; whose purpose is to capture wearable beauty to last for many tomorrows. I live in Seattle with my husband, two children and a chihuahua.
Glori Jarvi of G. Glitz loves color, especially when working with creating jewelry and art. Something old, something new, a dash of this and a dazzle of that allow the marriage of vintage and new to birth exciting new pieces to enhance your life with beauty.

Leonard Orr is the founding father of the worldwide Conscious Breathing Rebirthing Breathwork movement. He has trained thousands of Breathworkers worldwide and authored over 20 books in multiple languages. His unique ideas have healed and changed the lives of millions worldwide.

Come...
Step fully into life by relinquishing your grief... your sorrows from death, illness, loss, change, fear, vulnerability... make room for the new life of spring and the celebration of life in its full glory of summer.
A perfect May 1st celebration of letting our tears fall on the seeds of new possibility and opening into a space of freedom from our burdens, fully honoring and celebrating, with gratitude, the full cycle of life.
Based on the ritual of the Dagara tribe of West Africa as taught by
Sobonfu Somé and Malidoma Somé. A fully participatory ritual we will create together sharing poetry, storytelling, drumming, altar-building and song. We each grieve at the altar, when we feel called and return to welcoming arms of the singing village when complete.

SEA INSIDE
A Contact Improvisation Intensive

March 20-21 - intermediate level
March 22 - advanced level
- Saturday 11am-6pm
- Sunday 1pm-7pm
- Monday 10am-4pm
We will settle into a base camp of mindfulness, and then set out to investigate the wilderness of disorientation.

Join good company for dancing and discovery. With games, some sweat, and the unique physicality of the contact body we will savor and rock the boundaries between states of allowing and mindful intention.
We will explore
- Moving from a base of sensation
- Dancing with a shared central axis
- Seeking ease in going off balance
- Finding the spontaneous acrobatics of the form
- Spending more time in nuance, disorientation, and extended follow-through
For those with a solid grasp of Contact Improv fundamentals. Not sure if you are ready for this level? Contact Paula at info@SomaSpace.us | 503.804.7660. She can advise whether Martin's workshop is appropriate for your skill level.

I do not understand the mystery of grace
only that it meets us where we are, but does not leave us where it found us." Anne Lamott

Within each moving moment, a dynamic stillness invites us to drop in and stay tuned.
With every breath, our bellies reach down to the fertile darkness
as our hearts rise to glorious light.
Deep inside our bones, we carry the ancestral dance we have always known.
In the arc of our arms embrace, the heart's compass points us toward our aligned intention.
From this centerpoint -- where all moments from past, present and future converge --
where the wildness of our Soul and the grace of Spirit unite -- we begin.

Join dance catalyst Paula Byrne for a weekend of moving meditations designed to celebrate our unique personal form and connect to our universal source.
All levels of movement abilities and experience are welcome.

Indulge your senses

The Musicians:
Featured will be Benjy Wertheimer on tabla (classical drums from India), vocals, djembe and esraj (a 19-stringed bowed instrument) and Michael Mandrell on acoustic guitars.
Multi-instrumentalist Wertheimer was a founding member of Ancient Future, an award-winning San Francisco Bay Area ensemble which has been credited with coining the term "World Fusion." He studied tabla with Zakir Hussain, regarded by many as the greatest living master of the instrument and was also a composer/member of the Zakir Hussain Rhythm Experience (along with Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead).
Mandrell has also been composing and producing World Fusion music for decades. He specializes in open guitar tunings and is adept at blending jazz and Celtic. When he first heard Trasoff playing Sarod ten years ago, it was a natural to join him with acoustic guitar. They quickly became fast friends and began a string of collaborations. Mandrell quickly moved from Taos, New Mexico to Portland, where Wertheimer lives, in order to perform,
record and tour with him regularly.

The DJ:
Paula Byrne (aka DJ Mojo) has been facilitating conscious movement and ecstatic dance events since 1996. A former professional dancer, she delights in seducing dancers back into their own bodies, past prescribed steps and routines, where they open to the Divine Choreography of Spirit. Paula is the founder of OneDance, a moving meditation, and owner/director of SomaSpace. She leads workshops nationwide and maintains a teaching practice in Portland, Oregon.

Breema®, The Art of Being Present, and the Nine Principles of Harmony, is a dynamic system of Self-Breema exercises and partner bodywork that invites us to come out of the mind and into the body to discover the essence of who we really are. Breema uses simple tools - breath, movement, and stillness - to help us experience a deeper understanding of our body's instictive self-healing wisdom. When we practice Breema, we engage the mind, body, and emotions in one common activity of harmonious presence in this moment.
Breema classes begin with a body-centered meditation, followed by Self-Breema exercises, which are fun, playful, and can be quite vigorous and aerobic, as well as slow and tranquil. Several Breema partner bodywork sequences will be demonstrated and then practiced by the students on a padded floor. Participants should wear loose, comfortable clothing that covers legs, shoulders, arms, and wear clean socks.

Raku Loren - Photography has taken him from the 120 degree heat in the Sahara desert in northern Africa to the icy slopes in the Himalayan range of Nepal and northern India. From Bangladesh to Brazil to Indonesia to Cambodia. His photo-journalistic style developed and blossomed during those times he was on the road for many months at a time. Lori Presthus brings her love of painting birds to an exciting collaboration with resin artist Julia Gardner -- a brand new line of art jewelry. The original paintings are created in egg tempera and pastels, a miniature giclee print is then made and placed in a bezel in which Julia applies her resin magic to encase and complete each piece. The precious gemlike wearable "paintings" are currently located in 30+ galleries and boutiques in 6 states. Lori's art is also available in giclee prints, artcards and calendars.
Chris Langford was a scientist and computer specialist before finding his true passionsÑphotography and Asian textiles. After visiting southeast Asia, he developed a love for the area's culture, people, and art. His photos capture some of the essence and grace of the land and people where life moves at a different pace. He'll have photos available, along with collections of Malaysian batik sarongs, and hand-woven silk scarves from Thailand and Laos.
Keri Roberts, clothing designer & owner of Dragonlily Boutique, will be showcasing her own line of stretch-knit apparel, defined as timeless urban goddess wear. Josie Schmidt of Tulagems offers hand-crafted gemstone jewelry from designer/artist Josie Schmidt and metalsmith Jerry Campbell. We use natural precious and semi-precious gemstones- rough, raw, carved, cut, or handworked with precious metals of hand-hammered 24kt gold to sterling silver, as well as silks and leathers to create elegant and energetically focused necklaces, earrings, and rings. Each piece is a synergy of energetics, intuitively designed around the healing properties of the gemstones.
JoAutumn Brock's unique multi-media style of painting is infused with layers of meaning and symbolism. She has discovered that the creative process is the most effective way for her to contact and express the Divine within. Her fine quality prints are available in a variety of sizes and price ranges and she also offers cards and magnets.

Anna will be presenting Ashmaiden: upcycled finery and practical, bohemian attire for cinder-wenches, faeries, urchins, dreamers and gentlefolk (adventurous men: this includes you!).
Beth Grim has been manipulating textiles since she was knee-high to a grasshopper. Thanks to early inspirations from her mom, Beth has spent much of her life upcycling and re-fashioning creations from cast-off and found materials. Her recent love affair with all things wool has earned her the nick-name "Queen of Cozy". Begin your day with a kinesthetic kickstart!
Join us at SomaSpace each weekday in August for moving meditations
to awaken your body, open your heart and free your spirit.
We explore a different movement map each week.
Week #3: August 17-21
Journey through the Chakras : Crown to Root
Engage and embrace your power points with a moving meditation designed to
open and balance all 7 chakras.
Each chakra holds a particular life force energy and is associated with a specific part and function of the body. Each energy center may become closed or, conversely, overactive.
Movement clears blocked energy and cultivates harmony. Using the healing properties of music, we dance to a variety of genres to focus our intention and attention on each chakra from crown to root.
- Crown: devotion, spirit, wisdom
- Third Eye: intuition, vision, imagination
- Throat: expression, communication, sounding
- Heart: love, devotion, compassion
- Solar Plexus: will, power, strength
- Sacral: sensuality, creativity, sexuality
- Root: foundation, grounding, security
Experience this conscious dance journey through the center of your Soul.
No prior experience necessary. All are welcome. Wheelchair accessible.

Learn everything you need to get started in Qigong -- the fundamental principles, the movements, and standing meditation.
Qigong, a Chinese health practice, combines conscious breathing and movement, and standing and/or sitting meditations.
Xing Yi Qi Gong is derived from Xing Yi Quan, a sister style of Tai Ji Quan (tai chi chuan). Literally translated, Xing means form or shape; Yi means idea or intention; Qi means air, breath, or life energy; and Gong means skill or work. Its purpose is the melding of the mind, body and breath.
Jim Alan has practiced Xing Yi since 1982, and has taught this style for about 14 years. He studied with Kenny Gong in New York City for 8 years before moving to Portland in 1990. In the last year he has been practicing with a new focus, curiosity, and energy, which inspired this workshop.

Paul Deering grew up in Portland and had many opportunities for exploration around Mount Hood as a kid. The natural world is still a great source of inspiration to him and landscape photography is a way to see and feel his way into a world that often has many stories to tell layered in shadow & light, in motion & stillness, over time... that are hinted at in any given moment and unfold, through translation into something often unexpected.
Jana Dieter is a jewelry designer and gemstone therapist who uses gemstones and jewelry designs to intuitively provide healing, empowerment, and support for her clients. She is a master in Chikara-Reiki-Do and to wear her work is to wear a Reiki treatment. She further embues each completely unique piece with a LamaÕs blessing.
Tara Farmer and Stasia Bliss, founders of are Raw Bliss bring us amazing hand-made Raw Chocolate and CD's of Meditations and Music.
Terri Malaska is a retired librarian, practicing fashionista, who is in love with combining color, texture, and embellishment to make wearable art! Her bags range from elegant to sassy to vintage, depending on her inspiration and imagination.
Marcia Michel has been designing handcrafted beaded jewelry for five years. She enjoys working primarily with natural stone, Thai silver and semi-precious materials. Fascinated with the color, shape, and texture created by natural forces, she attempts to recreate that beauty in each one-of-a-kind piece.
Bethany Moore of Kiva Studio offers jewelry and fine-art pieces made primarily from reuse materials. She views her works as sacred, so each piece has it's own energetic & transformational properties. If you love copper, leather, buttons, found objects & images of the divine, you'll love her work.
Christina Ries is a wellness coordinator, photographer and event planner. She has a passion for creative processes like photography and recycled crafts. For this trunk show she is offering photos ($5-10 each), 1 and 3 inch buttons ($2 each, 3 for $5) and a few other random, kitschy creations.
